Early in 2012 NaSBA set up The Self Build Portal – the industry's first authoritative and independent guide to self build. This is primarily aimed at would-be self builders.

We would like to thank all the supporters of The Self Build Portal who have helped this become a growing success.

Murray Armor award

This annual award was instituted and funded by the former Association of Self Builders, in memory of Murray Armor - the acknowledged expert within the self build industry for over thirty years and the author of many books on self build.

The award recognises self builders who have battled through adversity to get their projects built.

How To Enter

If you've had challenging issues to overcome, we'd like to hear from you. Perhaps you are disabled but still managed to build your own home; or you had NIMBY neighbour problems; or a tiny budget; or maybe you developed a clever new construction or environmental technique that has enormous potential for the future? Whatever the trials or difficulties you overcame - let us know about it.

To enter, all you have to do is explain the obstacles you faced, how you overcame them, and the end result you achieved. You must do this on no more than three pages of A4 paper – and you can use these pages to include photos, plans or other illustrative material if this helps to explain the story, but please don't write any more than 500 words.

The deadline for submissions for the 2013 competition is the 31st July 2013.

The entries will be judged by an expert panel and the 2013 winner will be presented with the trophy at the NaSBA AGM towards the end of the year.
